The ruling follows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/evan-gershkovich-declared-unlawfully-detained-biden-admin-declares-full-court-press-release\">the release from detention last week of another settler<\/a> accused of involvement in the same incident who was also transferred to house arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has been carrying out near-nightly raids in the West Bank since last year in response to a spate of Palestinian attacks, fueling tensions in the region and sending the death toll soaring. Tuesday&#8217;s developments come amid a spike in attacks on Palestinians by radical Jewish settlers, settlement expansion and as Israel is led by a government of ultranationalist settlement supporters.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container desktop ad-h-50 ad-w-300\">\n<div data-iu=\"lb2\" class=\"ad gam\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Palestinian Health Ministry identified those killed on Tuesday as Qusay al-Walaji, 16, and Mohammed Nujoom, 25. The statement added that the raid took place in the Jericho area, which has seen heavy fighting over the last 16 months.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container mobile ad-h-250 ad-w-300 ad-placeholder-load\">\n<div data-iu=\"ban2\" id=\"mobile-mw-ad-ban2\" class=\"ad gam inline\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Israeli military said in its statement that Palestinians opened fire at forces operating in the Aqabat Jabr refugee camp near Jericho and the forces fired back.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container tablet ad-h-50 ad-w-300\">\n<div data-iu=\"lb3\" class=\"ad gam\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/iraq-bans-terms-gender-homosexuality-media-reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>IRAQ BANS TERMS INCLUDING \u2018GENDER,\u2019 \u2018HOMOSEXUALITY\u2019 FROM MEDIA: REPORTS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile a Jerusalem court ordered the release to house arrest of Indore, the main suspect in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/crime\/homicide\">the killing of 19-year-old Qusai Matan<\/a>, saying there was insufficient evidence to extend his detention. As the Israeli police plan to challenge the decision in court, Indore remained in custody on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container mobile ad-h-250 ad-w-300 ad-placeholder-load\">\n<div data-iu=\"ban3\" id=\"mobile-mw-ad-ban3\" class=\"ad gam inline\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But the order highlighted a sense among Palestinians and rights groups that Israel treats radical Jewish settlers in the West Bank with impunity.<\/p>\n<p>In the incident earlier this month, armed Israeli settlers entered the West Bank village of Burqa, torching at least two cars and opening fire at Palestinians who thronged the street. Matan was killed and four other Palestinians were wounded. The Israeli military said that Matan was shot after an altercation between Palestinians and Israeli settlers escalated, leading Israeli settlers to open fire and Palestinians to hurl rocks and fireworks.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container tablet ad-h-50 ad-w-300\">\n<div data-iu=\"lb4\" class=\"ad gam\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Police have accused the two Israeli settlers of causing death, obstructing justice and committing a nationalistically motivated arson attack. The defendants claim that they were acting in self-defense. The rockets have been rudimentary and do not appear to have caused any damage.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing Israeli-Palestinian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/regional-leaders-condemn-israels-alleged-role-escalating-violence-amid-middle-east-summit\">violence in the West Bank has surged<\/a> to levels unseen in nearly two decades, with more than 170 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire since the start of 2023, according to a tally by The Associated Press.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-container mobile ad-h-250 ad-w-300 ad-placeholder-load\">\n<div data-iu=\"ban5\" id=\"mobile-mw-ad-ban5\" class=\"ad gam inline\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-container tablet ad-h-50 ad-w-300\">\n<div data-iu=\"lb5\" class=\"ad gam\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Israel says most of those killed have been militants, but stone-throwing youths protesting the raids and others not involved in the confrontations have also been killed.<\/p>\n<p>At least 27 people have been killed in Palestinian attacks against Israelis during that time.<\/p>\n<p>Israel says the raids are essential to dismantle militant networks and thwart future attacks.
