“Selling Sunset” star Amanza Smith was potentially just days from death by the time she was admitted to an L.A. hospital in June, the reality star recently revealed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I said to them, \u2018Yeah, you know, this was so severe I\u2019ve been told that if I had waited like a week or two more I could be dead. Is that true?\u2019 I\u2019m asking the doctor, and he was like, \u2018No, one or two more days at home, and you could have been dead,\u2019” the 46-year-old told People magazine of what a doctor at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center explained to her.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said that was a “wakeup call” for her: “If you have pain, go to the hospital, don\u2019t wait.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t want to keep being so dramatic,” she whispered in the interview published Wednesday, “but I almost died. I was two days away from death and that doesn\u2019t even seem like that could be a real thing.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said about a month after she finished Season 7 of “Selling Sunset,”<\/a> she woke up one morning and couldn\u2019t get out of bed because her back hurt so much. Smith figured she was getting “old” and her back had just “gone out.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

After a week, she went to an emergency room, and staff told her she had a spasm and arthritis, and she was sent home with muscle relaxants.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the pain got worse, and one day she found herself biting a pillow screaming “because I\u2019ve never felt pain like that.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

A scan revealed that there was a mass on her back, and after she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai on June 2, doctors found bacteria in her blood, which had turned into\u00a0vertebral osteomyelitis, an infection that was deteriorating the bones in her spine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Smith said her surgeon told her had had only seen one other patient in 11 years with osteomyelitis in that location of her back.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It was a really bizarre location,” Smith noted.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Surgeons replaced her deteriorated vertebrae with a titanium cage in a six-hour surgery.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“So I am an iron woman,” she laughed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said she wasn\u2019t able to see her 12 and 13-year-old children for the month she was in the hospital except for on Facetime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“They were a lot more scared than I knew,” she said tearfully.<\/p>\n

“When I got discharged, I saw my son for the first time, he literally fell into my arms and started weeping.”<\/p>\n

After taking a minute to collect herself, Smith added, “he said, \u2018Mom, I was so scared you weren\u2019t going to come home from the hospital. I was so scared you weren\u2019t going to come home. I had never seen him cry like that.”<\/p>\n

She said, “They don\u2019t have their dad so that fear of a parent leaving them is in there because that\u2019s what happened to their dad.” Their father ex-NFL player Ralph Brown went missing in 2019.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said she let her son know she “wasn\u2019t going anywhere.”<\/p>\n

“I had a lot of flowers,” she smiled. “The nurses would come in, and they were like, \u2018It smells so good in here.\u2019”<\/p>\n

The mom of two is also in an “amazing” new relationship with a man named David \u2014 and the pair even shared their first kiss together in her hospital bed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Sometimes you don\u2019t realize you need something until you get it and you\u2019re like, \u2018Holy, this feels really good,\u2019” she told People.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since leaving the hospital, there is no longer any infection in her blood and only a bit of deterioration left on a small part of her spine that could lead to more surgery down the road but not right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve always sort of colored outside of the lines and I\u2019ve lived this crazy life of \u2014 I have a lot of stories,” she explained. “For me \u2014 obviously everything happens for a reason \u2014 but there\u2019s been so much thinking and reflecting like I feel like this infection was a collection of all the trauma in my life over years and years and years and now it\u2019s doing this thing. And now it\u2019s out.”<\/p>\n

She added, “This time in my life is really amazing,” referring to her kids growing up, the show\u2019s success and her work.\u00a0<\/p>\n
